Breaking News: TCM Rescue for Acute Liver Failure – Real-Time Follow-Up Record (Part II)

2026-05-22

Today, May 22, we continue to track the treatment progress of Mr. Qi from Taizhou, who was admitted on May 18. His case has drawn significant attention across social media circles. Diagnosed with gastric malignancy complicated by acute liver failure, the patient has received three days of syndrome-differentiated TCM compound therapy under Dr. Xia Bang'en (License No.: 541330283000002). Currently, both his emotional state and clinical symptoms have improved; critically elevated biochemical markers are now declining rapidly, and his condition is stabilizing.

Following oral administration of the herbal decoction, damp-toxin has gradually cleared, liver stagnation has been relieved, and Spleen-Stomach transportive function is recovering. His mental status has markedly improved, and overall vital signs are trending steadily upward.

The patient reported: "My abdomen feels less distended now, and I have more energy. My appetite is better than before, and the yellowing of my skin and eyes has faded somewhat. I feel much lighter overall." ”

According to the primary nurse, Mr. Qi’s temperature was 38.4°C on the evening of admission day minus two, 37.9°C the following evening, 37.0°C last night, and 36.6°C this morning. His heart rate has decreased from 120 beats/min to 96 beats/min, with pulse becoming increasingly regular. Ascites and abdominal distension have diminished, and bowel and bladder functions are normal.

Today’s follow-up lab results show that total bilirubin—after surging explosively from 447 units (May 15) to 572.7 units (May 18)—has begun to decline, dropping to 539.2 units (see Figure 1). Prothrombin Time (PT), a critical indicator in liver failure, has fully normalized, decreasing significantly from 21.1 seconds to 12 seconds (see Figure 2), now within the normal reference range (9.9–12.8 s). This pivotal improvement in PT indicates that the patient has initially emerged from life-threatening danger, the critical state is effectively controlled, and hepatic metabolic and synthetic functions are progressively recovering toward stability.

Dr. Xia Bang'en will make minor adjustments to the original formula based on ongoing clinical changes, continuing treatment guided by the principles of eliminating dampness, resolving toxins, strengthening the Spleen, and promoting diuresis.

We will continue monitoring the patient’s symptoms and laboratory parameters, dynamically optimizing the treatment plan, and tracking subsequent therapeutic progress.

Dr. Xia noted that integrating TCM as a core component in the rescue of acute and critical illnesses remains a vital long-term research frontier for the profession. To further enhance recognition of TCM in this field, it is essential to rely on robust, verifiable clinical efficacy to gradually shift professional consensus. He called upon fellow TCM practitioners to join forces, focusing on difficult and critical conditions where modern medicine lacks consistently effective solutions, and to demonstrate TCM’s scientific value and unique diagnostic-therapeutic advantages through authentic, reproducible clinical outcomes.

Important Reminder: TCM emphasizes individualized treatment based on syndrome differentiation. This article is a factual record of clinical management intended solely for TCM health education and reference. It does not represent any guarantee of therapeutic efficacy nor constitute medical advice. Both advanced malignant tumors and acute liver failure are critical conditions; self-medication is strictly prohibited. If you have related health concerns, please seek care at accredited medical institutions and follow standardized, syndrome-differentiated treatment under the guidance of qualified physicians.
